Heather Kempen

Director

Heather is proudly the Director of Nancy Dianne Studio of Dance, Ltd., a role that honors her family’s legacy and deepens her lifelong commitment to the studio founded by her mother. Heather began her dance training at the studio at the age of three and spent fifteen years as a dedicated student, studying Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Tumbling, and Modern Dance. She also participated in the studio’s Student Teaching Apprenticeship Program.


In addition to her training at the studio, Heather pursued additional instruction with Milwaukee Ballet School and Danceworks Milwaukee, and has continued her professional development through annual participation in workshops and conventions with Dance Masters of Wisconsin (DMW) and the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters (CNADM).


Heather earned her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2000. While there, she trained with esteemed educators and choreographers including Lise Houlton (former American Ballet Theatre dancer and Director of Minnesota Dance Theatre), Cathy Young (renowned jazz choreographer and former member of JAZZDANCE), and modern dance artists Paula Mann and Erin Thompson. As a member of the University Dance Theater, Heather performed in José Limón’s There Is A Time, staged by members of the Limón Dance Company, and understudied Paula Mann’s Mad Rush for the University’s Women at Work concert.


A certified dance educator and respected figure in the dance community, Heather has been a member of CNADM since 2002 and successfully passed her Certified Dance Educator Exam (CDE) in 2006. She is also a long-standing member of Dance Masters of Wisconsin, where she has held several leadership positions, including Educational Director (2022) and Vice President (2023). In 2016, Heather completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Detroit and earned certification in the Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum.


As Artistic Director, Heather brings a thoughtful blend of tradition, technique, and innovation to Nancy Dianne Studio of Dance. Her leadership is grounded in a deep understanding of dance education, a commitment to excellence, and a heart for nurturing the next generation of dancers in a positive, inclusive, and family-oriented environment.
